Kids, in the fall of 2006...
Just Kidding.
But really, I love "How I Met Your Mother"!
Our "Once Upon a Time" began in the halls of high school. It was the beginning of my sophomore year and I was excited and eager to make friends. Being a part of student government allowed me to meet older students, and I eventually latched on to a senior boy who was kind enough to introduce me to all of his friends. At some point during the first few weeks of school this friend introduced me to Nate, and 15-year-old Heather and 17-year-old Nate became fast friends!

I loved spending time with Nate because he could make me laugh like no-one else could! He was a senior who seemed to be involved in everything at school. He was on the track and swim teams, he was a member of every club, and he had tons of friends. He was also dating the Student Body President, which was a little intimidating to me! One of my favorite memories from high school is listening to the SBO President talk about how handsome Nate was.
During the school year I started dating one of Nate's friends. Nate was always there for me whenever I needed to talk or needed a shoulder to cry on. I can think of many times throughout that year when Nate and I would get together to go on drives around town, just to talk and to share our lives with each other. According to Nate, it was on one of these car rides that he realized he was going to marry me someday (awww!!). Nate shared his tender feelings with me during the school year, but I was always distracted by one of his friends. I tried to be gracious and thank him for telling me, but I simply couldn't give him what he was looking for.
At the end of the school year Nate graduated and moved to Utah State University. Though we didn't see each other as often as we would have liked, every once in a while I would get phone calls late at night from Nate in Logan. We would talk and talk and update each other on the happenings in our lives. Throughout the year Nate spent in Logan, he would drive back home once a month or so. While he was in town Nate would take me out to lunch during my school. We would go get Chinese takeout in his restored 1972 Volkswagen Beetle (another one of my favorite high school memories!). Nate was one of my best friends and I could never get enough time with him. Little did I know how much harder it would be when he would decide to serve an LDS Mission for two years!
When we started dating and reminiscing on our first interactions with each other, I was sad that neither of us had a memory of our first meeting. It seems like every couple can picture in their minds the exact moment they first locked eyes, but Nate and I don't have that. However, without that memory it seems like we have known each other forever!
Stay tuned for more Nate and Heather History!

Ah, I love this story!!!! I'm so excited to hear more!!!!! :) You guys are one of my favorites ;) Don't worry, Joe's first thought when he saw me in institute for the first time after he got home from his mission was, "I think her name is Amber and she used to want me." .... I obviously made a stunning impression on him ;) Good thing he seems to like girls who "wanted him".
ReplyDeleteAh that is too funny! Joe seems so hilarious. We should get our husbands together sometime so they can talk about mowing lawns and home improvement (I know there's much more to Joe than that, but that's what I know they'll have in common!)
ReplyDeleteI think we definitely should get them together!! :)
